Meet Travis Purkerson

Travis has been in pastoral ministry for over 28 years, serving lead pastors out of love for the Church in the area of worship leading and counseling. Travis holds a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from Prairie Bible Institute and a Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from the Masters University. He is licensed with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors and works full-time as the Worship and Counseling Pastor at Heartland Evangelical Free Church in Central City, Nebraska.

Travis has faced a variety of challenges in his role as an associate pastor. His compassion for pastors has only grown as he has seen the great need pastors have for friendship and partnership in the ministry. He desires to partner with his wife Ruth as they reach out to ministry families to provide friendship and encouragement for the unique challenges they face. Even though Travis is only volunteering at this point, he sees how his wife’s ministry dovetails with the ministry at Heartland. Meet Ruth Purkerson

Ruth has been a pastor’s wife for 28 years and has raised six children with her husband Travis. She holds a degree in early childhood education and put it to work homeschooling her children for the better part of 10 years. She has cared for and counseled alongside her husband Travis during these years while holding jobs at a local credit union and in the public school system working with special needs children. Her heart for ministry wives and their children has continued to grow as she has become a person sought out for encouragement and friendship by those who are in ministry. Recognizing a growing need in caring for these families, she has now focused her attention on partnering with Standing Stone in full-time shepherding care for ministry families. Ruth has been married to Travis for 30 years. Together they have three grown, married children who live nearby, two children still attending college, and the youngest is in high school. Ruth spends most of her extra time with her grandchildren, who are a great joy, and in her garden tending tasty things that grow.
