Our Story

It was one of the darkest months of my life as a pastor. Ruth and I had been through one of the most discouraging seasons we had ever experienced in ministry. We had been struggling as a family, and in my discouragement, I truly felt like maybe my ministry time was ending. We prayed and were eager for perspective. But in reaching out, we found that most people just didn’t know what to say. You see, raising foster children can truly be a challenge. Most of the people around us didn’t understand the unique difficulties of this kind of ministry. Though called to, “manage my household well…” (I Timothy 3:4), we felt as if we were alone with no one to talk to and appropriately help us through the pain.

A friend called me during this season. I found out later that he was working with a ministry called Standing Stone. He listened to me and allowed me to process through my confusion and then shared the hope I needed to hear from the Scriptures. Over time, and with encouragement, I found help through the struggle and the strength to continue on in ministry. Roman 15:4 says, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

This is the ministry of Standing Stone, and we are thankful to be a part of their team! Ruth and I have decided that we want to spend the rest of our lives here on this earth investing in Ministry leaders and their families. Our desire is to give perspective that they are not unqualified simply because they experience difficulty, and with help and hope through the Scriptures, encourage them to remain steadfast in leading the church. No one should go it alone in the challenges that life presents. We all should be able to lean when times seem too hard to handle. We would love to connect with you and share time to C.A.R.E. Click here to see more of our story and our ministry with Standing Stone.
